With today’s release of “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter,” it seems that a new Lana Del Rey era is officially upon us. Over the weekend, the elusive singer-songwriter announced via Instagram that the follow-up to 2023’s Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is imminent, hinting at a possible timeline by noting that vinyl production takes about three months.

Written by Del Rey along with her sister Chuck Grant and brother-in-law Jason Pickens, “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” is a bona fide love song, an ostensible tribute to hubby Jeremy Dufrene, who’s also credited as a songwriter. “Everyone knows I had some trouble,” she chirps. “I know it’s strange to see me cooking for my husband.”

Opening with a sample from Ella Fitzgerald’s “Laura,” the four-minute track—co-produced by Del Rey, longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, and Drew Erickson—is filled with whimsy and drama, its swooning, Middle-Eastern-inflected strings complementing twitterpated lines like “Did you know exactly how magical you are/Whoopsie-daisy, yoo-hoo, yelling, ‘I love you’.” Of course, it wouldn’t be a LDR joint if she didn’t refer to him as “daddy.”
