The title track from Billie Eilish’s sophomore effort, Happier Than Ever, finds the 19-year-old singer unleashing a torrent of razor-sharp bon mots at a toxic boyfriend. “I could talk about every time you showed up on time/But I’d have an empty line ‘cause you never did,” she quips during the song’s guitar-fueled climax.
In the self-directed music video for “Happier Than Ever,” Eilish pours her heart out over the phone when she notices her roof has sprung a leak. As the nearly five-minute track sharply pivots in a more aggressive rock direction, Eilish finds herself drowning in her anger. She swims to the roof of the house, where she dances barefoot, screams into the rain, and eventually submits to the rising tide.
