Jennifer Lopez Enlists Meghan Trainor & Dr. Luke for Controversial New Single Ain't Your Mama

Jennifer Lopez’s new single, “Ain’t Your Mama,” is already getting headlines—but not for the reasons she might have hoped for. The track, which reunites J. Lo with longtime record label Epic, was co-written by newly anointed Best New Artist Grammy winner Meghan Trainor…and produced by recently accused rapist Lukasz Gottwald, a.k.a. Dr. Luke. The song’s subtle reggae groove recalls that of Lopez’s slept-on 2011 single “I’m Into You,” but “Ain’t Your Mama” is likely to have longer legs, what with its instantly memorable hook and the singer’s debut performance of the song tonight on the series finale of American Idol, on which she serves as a judge.

Lopez, of course, leveraged her first season on the singing competition’s bench to huge returns with her comeback hit “On the Floor.” But it’s unclear if Dr. Luke’s involvement in the new single will result in a boycott, which would be a shame, since the empowering “Ain’t Your Mama” finds the former Fly Girl flipping gender roles on their head, something she also did with the music video for 2014’s “I Luv Ya Papi.” “No more playing video games/Things are about to change,” Mami warns at the start of “Ain’t Your Mama,” forsaking cooking and doing laundry for her man. It’s unclear whether the track is a castaway from Trainor’s upcoming sophomore effort (the lyrics make reference to the singer’s “curves”), but it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Lopez singing it.
