Lichman & Rizov Live at Grassroots Tavern: Episode 3, Untitled Bootleg Oscar Screener with S.T. VanAirsdale

While a majority of us are gearing up for a ragin’ Oscar party this weekend, we got especially psyched when S.T. VanAirsdale (The Reeler, “Little Gold Men”) agreed to sit down to help pick apart the hype and delve into the hypocrisies involving old white men voting, ethnic stereotyping, and Juno. We begin the podcast, however, by praising the late, great Roy Scheider. Sadly, I last saw him in The Punisher, which really made me wish I got Seaquest D.S.V. on DVD. Special thanks again to S.T. for coming out and giving his thoughts on the awards process. (Note that this was recorded prior to the Oscars’ broadcast and is entirely speculation on the part of the involved parties. However, if we are right, feel free to reward our deductive reasoning with money, accolades, and more money.)

A quick plug for next week’s episode, where we’re joined by special guests (and 2/5ths of Subway Cinema) Grady Hendrix and Marc Walkow for a discussion of Yakuza films—but more specifically the upcoming series at Asia Society, “Gamblers, Gangsters and other Anti-Heroes: The Japanese Yakuza Movie”. We had a chat before recording about date movies and confirmed that you should never, ever make the first one Zodiac. Not that I ever did … all right, I did. But I stand by my choice.

And remember, if you ever see Vadim or ME at the bar, please buy us a drink. JL
