We’re in the final stretch, and we’re starting to run out of things to talk about when it comes to the film that’s looking to become the biggest Oscar steamroller in a decade. And so, we need to preserve our remaining thoughts at the expense of the word count.
Even though we could say that the history of this category favors exactly the sort of tasteful action-oriented efforts embodied by Top Gun: Maverick—whose editor, Eddie Hamilton, appropriately enough won an ACE Eddie Award for best edited drama feature film just last night—it’s difficult to see this one breaking any other way than Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Paul Rogers (who also took an Eddie home, for comedy). Especially since the film managed to snag the BAFTA despite the Brits otherwise turning up their noses at it in every other category.
Which means that, come Sunday, Oscar queens everywhere will get one more chance to reach for their smelling salts over their new zaddy crush.
Will Win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Could Win: Top Gun: Maverick
Should Win: Tár
