Adam McKay’s Vice Starring Christian Bale and Amy Adams Gets Trailer and Poster

Three years after he hit paydirt and a bonanza of critical acclaim for The Big Short, Adam McKay is back with Vice, which is being billed by distributor Annapurna Pictures as “the untold true story that changed the course of history.” Written by McKay, the film follows the rise of Dick Cheney (played by Christian Bale) and how he shaped the American landscape, as well as the world, as vice president to George W. Bush. According to a recent Variety article, Bale’s performance demanded that he cut off his hair, bleach his eyebrows, and gain 40 pounds. Naturally, there’s already talk of an Oscar nod for the actor, as well as for Sam Rockwell and Amy Adams, who star in the film as Bush and Cheney’s wife, Lynne, respectively.

Robyn and Röyksopp Get Monumental in New Music Video for “Monument”

Robyn and Röyksopp have premiered the new music video for an abbreviated version of “Monument,” the epic, opening track of their recent EP, Do It Again, via Vice’s art and technology network the Creators Project. Minutes before unveiling the clip this morning, Robyn took to Twitter to describe it as “some kind of inner journey, space in time and the experience of your own body.” Sporting platform sneakers, a simple gray sweatshirt emblazoned with a peace symbol, and her trademark mullet, Robyn is suspended on a giant glowing orb somewhere between the creation of molecular cells and the cosmos. The dreamy, hallucinogenic vibe recalls Madonna and Mark Romanek’s surrealist homage “Bedtime Story” from 1995. “Monument” was directed by Max Vitali, who was previously at the helm of Robyn’s viral sensation “Call Your Girlfriend.” Watch “Monument” below!

Radical Chic: Madonna Unveils Short Film Secret Project Revolution

In his 2004 film The Raspberry Reich, Bruce LaBruce declares that “Madonna is counter-revolutionary.” Of course, it’s one of many parodies of political sloganeering in the film; in the real world, the impact of the pop-diva doyenne’s work, particularly in terms of post-feminist sexual agency, is unmistakable. Notably, Madonna’s American Life album—which dropped a year before The Raspberry Reich and finds the singer posing on the cover like a cross between Che Guevara and Patty Hearst, two revolutionary icons who figure prominently in the film—proved that Madonna’s politics are best delivered with tongue in cheek. When she’s ventured beyond sexual politics (or, say, the Catholic church, her qualms with which are ultimately about sex and gender anyway), she’s stumbled perilously close to the brand of radical chic LaBruce satirizes in his film.
