Co-founded by Ed Gonzalez and Sal Cinquemani in 2001, Slant Magazine quickly became known for its edgy, irreverent pop-cultural criticism. Using a grassroots approach, the site has carved a unique niche for itself in the world of film, music, and beyond. Slant’s writers have appeared on MSNBC, FOX Business Channel, the Biography Channel, BBC, CNN, and NPR, and have written for The New York Times, The Village Voice, The Notebook, Reverse Shot, The Brooklyn Rail, Time Out New York, and other prominent publications.

What kind of material do you publish?

We publish reviews, feature stories, interviews, and more on most cultural products and expressions in areas such as film, music, TV, video games, theater, and more.

Are you looking for contributors?

While most of Slant’s reviews are commissioned in-house, we are always on the lookout for talented writers to join our team. If you’re interested in writing reviews for the site, or have unique pitches for festival coverage or profiles, feature stories, and interviews, do not hesitate to reach out to one of our editors.

Keep your pitch short and include clips of your writing. We will do our best to respond to your pitch, but due to the volume of inquiries, that isn’t always possible.

Do you pay contributors?

Yes. While we are independently operated and rely partly on Patreon support, all contributions to the site are paid. Please inquire for more details.
