Morcheeba
Parts of the Process

arts of the Process is an apt title for this greatest hits collection from British electronica/trip-hop trio Morcheeba. While not exactly the "best of the best" (missing from the collection is the overwhelmingly stellar "Who Can You Trust" from the group's debut of the same name), the disc is still an ideal way to become familiar with this ambient band's unique style. It's also an excellent showcase for Skye Edwards's enchanting voice, as demonstrated on the smooth and graceful opening track "The Sea" and the airy "Can't Stand It." The former is a display of Morcheeba's masterful brand of pop balladry. The addition of two brand new tracks, including an appearance by rapper Big Daddy Kane on "What's Your Name," strongly points to Morcheeba's forward momentum as they sum up a seven-year career on 18 tracks of fluid, techno-enhanced pop tunes.
