This morning Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira premiered her new duet with Rihanna, “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” the lead single from her forthcoming studio album, the first in the singer’s new deal with Live Nation and her first English-language effort since 2009’s She Wolf. Co-produced by John Hill (M.I.A., Santigold) and Kid Harpoon (Florence and the Machine, Jessie Ware), the track fuses new wave and reggae, with Shakira and the “Loveeeeeee Song” singer, who can’t seem to turn down any guest spot, trading verses atop a backdrop of electric guitars, horns, and dub effects. Shakira is, per usual, almost impossible to understand, singing something about robbing and killing to keep her man, but RiRi’s typically shrill voice is at its most palatable amid the island vibe this kind of song provides. Shakira’s as-yet-untitled new album arrives March 25th.
