Music Video: Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball”

Miley Cyrus is sad. No, she’s angry. No, she’s horny. Really horny. No, angry-horny. At least according to the first 90 seconds of the singer-twerker’s new music video, “Wrecking Ball.” Cyrus’s wild mood swings could be the consequence of her midweek blues following a weekend of dancing with molly and just generally running things. She cries, spittle clinging to her alarmingly white teeth; she rides the titular ball in her panties and Doc Martens; she rides it completely in the buff too; she licks a phallic sledgehammer. Despite all that, the clip, directed by one-note photographer Terry Richardson, is surprisingly focused, at least aesthetically—all monotones except for Miley’s bleached locks, red lips, and piercing blue eyes.
