Hello fans of the sporadic "Live From Grassroots Tavern" podcast. John Lichman's taking a break from writing intros to better consider how to direct his ire against an unfeeling world. I'm Vadim Rizov, pinch-hitting as an intro writer. This is the first of a three-segment podcast recorded a couple of months ago with Keith Uhlich, intended to tie in with The House Next Door's "Summer of '87" series. It's being posted late because as time passes, all things become more valuable, with mortality creating rising awareness of the evanescent beauty of each moment. (Either that or we got lazy about writing intros.) In the coming segments we discuss Masters of The Universe and Superman IV, but in this intro we do some rhetorical throat-clearing about The State of the Blockbuster, such as it is. In a change of pace, we recorded in Park Slope's High Dive rather than Manhattan's Grassroots, because we are old and tired. Also they had different tunes on the jukebox. If you like thinkpieces, you'll love this! (The shouty linking snippets are from Archers Of Loaf's "Nostalgia.") (VR)
