It'd be good to hear from you old schoolers (as well as new) to see what films have inspired you. Even if it's just to drop off a movie rating that would be great.

"The Strangers" turned out to be a very pleasant surprise, stylishly and craftily ratcheting up tension throughout. And who knew Liv Tyler could, like, emote?

I had a funny progression with my views on Cloverfield. Theatrically, it was a letdown, but I think its use of digital imagery kinda falls apart at that size and in that environment. On DVD, it worked much better, though I can also thank Matt Zoller Seitz for pointing out aspects of its technical commentaries regarding society that went over my head the first time (the shot after the creature attacks the cameraman at the end is indeed awesome). It's no Blair Witch, but I still dig it.
